Gurnee homes and what people clear out
Gurnee is newer than the lakefront towns. Census estimates put the median year built at 1992, and about 60% of homes were built in 1990 or later. About 76% of homes are owner-occupied, and roughly one in five units is in a building with five or more apartments. That mix means most requests are garage and basement cleanouts, furniture being replaced, and debris left after a remodel, plus some apartment and townhome move-outs.
Try village bulk pickup first for single items
Gurnee's hauler, LRS, takes one bulk item per week next to your cart at no extra charge, such as a chair, sofa, bed frame or mattress. Items over 50 pounds need to be scheduled with LRS. Mattresses must be wrapped in plastic. Electronics, refrigerators and freezers, paint and chemicals are not accepted at the curb.
A junk removal crew makes more sense when you have several items, heavy pieces on stairs, appliances or electronics, or a whole room to clear at once.
Hazardous items
Most crews will not take paint, solvents or chemicals. SWALCO runs household chemical waste collection in Gurnee on a set schedule, so check its calendar.
How the referral works
Tell us what needs to go by form or phone. We pass it to one independent crew that serves Gurnee, and they contact you to confirm a price. We are a referral service, not a hauler, and the referral is free.
